New favorite scripture.

Doctrine and Covenants 6:14.
"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, blessed art thou for what thou hast done; for thou hast ainquired of me, and behold, as often as thou hast inquired thou hast received instruction of my Spirit. If it had not been so, thou wouldst not have come to the place where thou art at this time."

This one time in sunday school...

We had an awesome lesson on tithing.
but it wasn't just your basic lesson either.
We read 1 Kings Chapter 17.
(Heather's translation)
We read the part where the Prophet Elijah was commanded to go to the city of Zarephath, where the Lord has prepared a widow to care for him.
He meets the widow, asks for a glass of water, and as she went to get it, he asks for bread. And this was during a famine and drought.
She tells him I don't have any, I am collecting sticks to dress with meal, and oil, then eat with my son and die. (from starvation)
Elijah makes the promise to her that if she makes a little bread for him FIRST. Then she would have enough to provide until the Lord sends the rain (to end the famine).
Well, this poor widow, did as the Prophet commanded.
AND SHE WAS BLESSED. THE LORD FULLFILLED HIS PROMISE.
Isn't that EXACTLY like the law of tithing? (as stated in Malachi 3: 10-11)
(look it up)

BUT WAIT
then her son falls sick and dies.
She is so upset.
She fully provided for this man of God. WHAT DID SHE DO WRONG?
Elijah takes her son from her then, and goes up into his room, cries unto the Lord.
Have you brought more sadenss (evil) upon the woman?
He blesses this child 3 times.
The Lord heard his plea, and brought back the breath and soul of this young boy.

Elijah, takes the boy back to his mother and holds him out to her. Look your son lives!
She then says to him "Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth."

We talked about how the law of tithing isn't made just for the physical building up of the kingdom, (ex: church buildings, power bills, temples, materials, etc)
But it's also for the literal saving of souls.

In Malachi 3:10-11 it says, "Bring ye all the atithes into the storehouse, that there may be bmeat in mine house, and cprove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not dopen you the ewindows of heaven, and pour you out a fblessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it....And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground...saith the Lord of hosts."

Blessings so great and marvelous, you WILL NOT have enough room for it.

This story and lesson some might think of Jesus Chirst and his sacrifice here on our earth.
But it made me immediately think of my cute, annoying, awkward teenage brother, Matthew.
If the law of tithing is for the direct and literal saving of souls, he would be an awesome example.
His story is amazing.

Decemeber 23, 1999, My Parents took my brother, Matthew to the doctor, our usual doctor was away for the holidays (I think), and they ended up going to friend of our family.
Because Matthew was so young (10 months) and a new patient, this doctor was feeling his stomach, felt a bump, and immediately got him a cat-scan. Just to find out the was something there. Later to find out it was neuroblastoma (type of cancer).

Matthew had bascially been sick on and off since he was born.
This had to be the reason.

That day, my parents packed everything left my brother Jeremy and I with Grandpa and Grandma Ward, told us everything would be okay, and they would be back in a week (hopefully)
Well, they stayed a lot longer than that. (I like to think this is when I did a lot of growning up, or trying to.)
And because it was the end of the year the insurance was completely changing for the next year.
The new insurance wouldn't help cover the treatments and surgery needed.
Long Story short, The OLD insurance covered it. (or helped)

(Please remember I was 8 when this happened, and this is my memory and what my mom has told me over the years.)

WHAT A BLESSING!!!!!!
Turns out previously, my parents hadn't been the best at paying their tithing. But repented, put things in order, and had been paying their tithing, and doing so faithfully by the time this happened.

I've known about this for years!
But it never came across to me that having my Brother Matthew, living, and heathy was a direct result of tithing. (and Prayer, and Priesthood blessings, and temples, and faith, of so many more people, from other religions. I remember how the community reacted, and that there was a lot of other faiths who prayed for my brother. I will never forget that.)

Anyways...
going back to 1 Kings...
When I think of the Prophet Elijah holding out this widows son, I picture Christ holding out her son.
Or even Christ holding out my brother Matthew, "Look, he lives!"

......I had to skip down, that's such a powerful picture.
Talk about opening the windows of heaven. .
Wow.

After everything we already had been blessed with.
He Prepared my parents.
Inspired Dr. Krogh.
Had a comfortable place for Jeremy and I.
Helped with the costs.
Made Christmas different but enjoyable.
Had a place where Mom and Dad could stay. (Ronald McDonald house)
Wonderful Nurses and Doctors.
gave us faith, knowing whatever happens, we would ALL be together again.

He literally handed us Matthew.

You know, This has affected my faith, and my parents, and many others. Just by this miracle.
We also talked about how just by being examples, little things you wouldn't think about could save a soul.
From this the Lord taught me the importance of tithing, because of my parents example, I've hardly (I'm human) missed or didn't pay tithing.
You know, it won't and hasn't just affected me.
I helped my husband realize the importance of fast offerings. (well I think so).
This will affect our children.
Hopefully some of my other siblings too.
and all the people they touch.
It's amazing what the Lord does, and how he does it.

You're Amazing

Dearest Matthew, You are so absolutely wonderful! You love every single little detail about me, and makes me feel so loved, and happy.
Thank you for loving my faulty emotional self, you never cease to amaze me.
You are the biggest, and best blessing of my life.
God could NOT have found a better match for me.
Happy 2 months of Marriage.

Eternally your love,
-Heather

p.s. you'll see this one day. hopefully sooner than later.

this is not a political post.

I just saw a picture of a girl I went to high school with who does the scolarship/beauty pageants. But in this picture she was promoting the NoH8 campaign.
(NoH8 campagin is basically a campaign that is just trying to challenge the Prop 8 law in California.)
Now, her personally do that, didn't bother me at all. I don't agree with it, but that's it. No big deal. Whatever you know?
But then there were pictures of her with another girl. A little girl, who can't be over the age 10. With the painted on words painted on her face and her mouth taped shut. Supporting the same cause.
SHE'S A LITTLE GIRL! SHE PROBABLY DOESN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND!

Then again, she could. Heck if I know.
Still it erks me. She is so young.
What influence could she have on other little kids? Or even adults?
What influence do I have on others?
It's a law, it's been passed. Just like the president. I didn't vote for our current president, but I don't go on complaining about him or trying to kick him out of the office. (The way I personally see it, people will still complain)
 Bad comparison? whatever.
